In humans, the enamel surface varies in thickness, often thickest at the cusp, up to 2.5 mm, but will lose its thickness over the years. The normal color of dentin varies from light yellow to grayish (bluish) white. At the edges of teeth where there is no dentin underlying the enamel, the color sometimes has a slightly blue tone. Since enamel is semi-translucent, the color of dentin and any material underneath the enamel strongly affects the appearance of a tooth.

There are several reasons why teeth may darken.

  • Foods/drinks. Coffee, tea, colas, wines, and certain fruits and vegetables (for example, apples and potatoes) can stain your teeth.
  • Tobacco use. Smoking or chewing tobacco can stain teeth.
  • Poor dental hygiene. Inadequate brushing and flossing to remove plaque and stain-producing substances like coffee and tobacco can cause tooth discoloration.
  • Disease. Several diseases that affect enamel (the hard surface of the teeth) and dentin (the underlying material under enamel) can lead to tooth discoloration. In addition, treatments for certain conditions can also affect tooth color.
  • Medications. The antibiotics tetracycline and doxycycline are known to discolor teeth when given to children whose teeth are still developing (before the age of 8). Mouth rinses and washes containing chlorhexidine and cetylpyridinium chloride can also stain your teeth. Antihistamines (like Benadryl), anti-psychotic drugs, and anti-hypertensive medications can also cause teeth discoloration.
  • Dental materials. Some of the materials used in dentistry, such as amalgam restorers, especially silver sulfide-containing materials, can cast a gray-black color to your teeth.
  • Advancing age. As you age, the outer layer of enamel on your teeth gets worn away revealing the natural yellow color of dentin.
  • Genetics. Some people have naturally brighter or thicker enamel than others.
  • Environment. Excessive fluoride either from environmental sources (naturally high fluoride levels in water) or from excessive use (fluoride applications, rinses, toothpaste fluoride supplements taken by mouth) can cause teeth discoloration.

How about to protect your teeth and natural whitening your teeth at the same time?

  • DENTCOAT- works against that aging process and helps you keep your natural tooth color by incorporating our silica crystals into the enamel, giving teeth their opacity back; thus it is visible through the breaking of light at the tooth structure.
  • Through a chemical reaction of our SOI2 compound into the enamel a hydrolysis slowly takes place and releases small amounts of reactive oxygen. These, in turn, cause the oxidation of unsaturated double bonds and a reduction of chromogenic metal oxides. The captured pigments are, therefore, initially brightened.
  • DENTCOAT - mineralizes your tooth and protects the tooth enamel. It is acid- resistant and reduces plaque accumulation by up to 95%
  • DENTCOAT  - helps to ensure a unique opacity and restores the natural and radiant appearance of your teeth. You can brighten your teeth by shades or even restore your natural color. Please note that there will not be a fundamental tooth color change as may be seen in bleaching treatments. You get a natural, immediately shiny result after the treatment – pure Anti-Aging.
  • DENTCOAT - contains no peroxide, no chlorine compounds or carbamide peroxide.
  • DENTCOATING - is painless, long-lasting and suitable for allergy sufferers.
  • After DENTCOATING you can eat and drink anything without having to wait for 48 hours, as is recommended after bleaching.
